Kelly Kozak seeks re-election for Public School Board in Ward 6
12 September, 2006

Kelly Kozak is renewing her commitment to public education in Saskatoon and is seeking re-election as Public School Board Trustee in Ward 6. Ward 6 includes the neighbourhoods of Buena Vista, Central Business District, Haultain, Nutana and Varsity View.

First elected in 2003, Kozak had several priorities including the development of student transition to post secondary education and training; addressing aging school facilities; increasing community partnerships; and equitable provincial funding.

Over the course of her term, Saskatoon Public Schools has partnered with the University of Saskatchewan to offer a Transition Program for students, allowing them to earn university credit in a supportive environment. Integrated Community Centres with Centennial Collegiate, W.P. Bate School and the upcoming Tommy Douglas Collegiate over the last three years are only the beginning of collaborative civic partnerships.

Kozak strongly supported the development of Board governance and division wide strategic priorities in 2004. As a result, "Literacy for Life" has promoted tremendous achievement in student reading and writing skills. "Facilities for Learning" has emphasized the need to repair and renew schools.

Over the past two years, citizens have seen a yearly 8% tax credit on school property tax.

As a Trustee, Kozak will advocate for public education, transition programs and property tax reform in Saskatoon. "We have had many positive results over the past three years," Kozak said. "I would like to continue to build on that momentum."

Kozak is the Coordinator of International Education at the University of Saskatchewan.   She is currently a Board Member for the Canadian Bureau of International Education and is a former Board Member of World University Service of Canada. She will use her previous School Board experience as well as her diverse knowledge of local, national and international educational systems to promote quality education and property tax reform in Saskatoon.
